One day, you won’t be there for your children.
But that’s not today.
Today is alive with possibilities.
A few years ago, I faced a health challenge that turned my world upside down: breast cancer.
I’ve finally stopped taking the follow-up medications that served me well—but also brought their own challenges. And that milestone has me reflecting on what time has taught me.
The whole experience was like a spotlight—cutting through the noise and illuminating what truly matters.
It stripped away distraction and left me with only the essentials:
→ My children
→ My passions
→ My sense of purpose
I realised I’d been giving too much energy to things I didn’t truly care about.
That new car I thought I needed?
Not for me. Got rid of it.
The endless to-do lists?
They faded into the background.
What emerged was a rare kind of clarity—about what I value and where I want to focus my time.
I noticed that my coaching clients are like oxygen.
And while all people can disappoint sometimes, the connectedness we carry from our friendships is still worth nurturing.
Life is fleeting.
If we’re lucky, we get about 4,000 weeks.
It’s a stark reminder that time is precious and unpredictable.
But if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s this:
Adversity can be a catalyst for hope and growth.
So how do we navigate life’s unwelcome storms… and grow?
Here are six learnings I hope might help you live into your preferred future:
1. Cultivate meaning in your work and life.
2 ️ Practice self-kindness and back yourself.
3 Surround yourself with the right-fit support.
4 Be radically honest about what’s holding you back.
5 Make a difference – in the ways that matter most to you.
6 Lean into what you are best at, love most, and gives you energy.
I didn’t just clock up learnings like these—I designed my next chapter around them.
That loud desire to write?
→ Led to publishing Unstuck and sharing my Purposeful Career Redesign formula with thousands.
That insatiable energy to learn?
→ I became certified in Narrative Therapy.
That renewed sense of purpose?
→ It’s behind everything I do—and taking me to the Meaning and Purpose Summit in Lisbon soon.
Cancer was confronting.
But adversity gave me direction and determination.
It’s never too late to redefine what matters most.
If you’re feeling stuck, stagnant, or overwhelmed in work that no longer fits—life is too short to stay in the wrong place. Maybe it’s time you hit refresh.
So let me ask you—if time was running out, what hopes would you finally act on?
